The 'Immaculate Eye' Creates a Winner

It's a tribute to highly acclaimed artist Cecil Burrowes that so many in the towing industry seek him out for their graphic design. His custom paint and airbrushed designs have won countless awards and have led many to pursue him in hopes that he will work on their next baby.

Keith Nelson drives one of Burrowes' award-winning designs for American Auto Body and Recovery in Maspeth, New York.

"You are lucky to get Cecil to work for you," Nelson said. "His time is valuable and you have to have patience. He is a Picasso when it comes to doing art."

One of Burrowes' latest designs appeared at the 2017 American Towman Exposition in Baltimore, Maryland, where Cecil applied his artistry to the company's 2016 Hino 258/Vulcan 22' flatbed. This truck won Best of Show – People's Choice.

It is a unique flag-themed design that pops due to the brilliant composition and layering of graphic elements. It includes an artfully rendered skyline of NYC, including the Twin Towers, in popping and vivacious bright candy colors and Cecil's impeccable attention to detail.

On the hood is a red and white flag pattern coming down vertically on one side contrasting with a candy blue covered in white stars. A bright, red and white ribbon cascades over a pastel-toned NYC skyline, with the company phone number written in New York Police Department-type lettering.

"All of our trucks are patriotic-themed," said owner Sammy Abate. "It has to do with the name of our company. We went with the New York City skyline because we look out over it and see it every day."

"American" in the company name pops through a metal cut-out over gradient colors and flowing lines.

As Nelson aptly summed up of Burrowes, "His eye is immaculate."
