The Rebirth of a 'Tator

0 57662By Jim "Buck" Sorrenti

Paul Falcao, owner and president of Classic Towing & Storage in Toronto, Canada, offers a wide range of services to his customers with offices and a large radio-dispatched fleet across Ontario.

Bubba Semple is a heavy-duty recovery specialist for the company and one of the recovery specialists featured on the Discovery Channel cable TV show, "Heavy Rescue 401." He had been operating a huge twin-steer for a while until they put their Century 1060 60-ton rotator back into service.

"This 60-ton Century rotator had burnt on us four years ago," Bubba said. "We rebuilt it using two scrap trucks to get her back on the road. She's a 2006 Kenworth T800 with a C15 twin-turbo Cat and it was turned up to 550 horsepower. It has an 18-speed trans in it and an eight-bag Kenworth suspension. There are a few pics of her before we put the moose bumper on her."

Semple was called by Joe Johnson Equipment in Innisfil to handle a tow and lift relocation job. He headed out in his rebuilt Century 1060.

This job was not like the heavy recovery situations he deals with on the 401, but it shows the versatility of the rotator. They had one green trash unit Bubba had to tow outside.

"When that was done," Semple said, "I had to then lift one garbage box off and place it on another truck then take the one that was burnt off and place it on a flatbed till the new truck was finished."

Semple did all of the rigging on these containers and was happy with the performance of the 1060.

"She's my new truck," Semple said. "I have only had this truck back on the road for two months now. So far we've handled two rollovers with this unit since it's been rebuilt. This is the only job that I have done other than those two rollovers."

Semple is a big man with a big heart and a big passion for the job he does. This was not a big job, but every job is important!

And his Century 1060 has been reborn as one beautiful rig!!!
